Playing with Texture

My dog, Domino, is absolutely terrified of the camera. But somehow, she still manages to sneak herself into the background and be really creepy.

I'm pretty sure I gave my mom this necklace for Mother's Day last year, but it wound back up in my closet. It goes wonderfully with this jacket. Thanks mom.

I love how the textures in the jacket and the skirt look together.

Photographic Expedition

Last week I went on a photographic expedition of sorts with two of my best friends. However, it didn't turn out completely as we had planned-- it was way to hot out! But anyway, we got a few photos...

Robin's Egg Blue

Dress altered vintage/ Shoes Nine West/ Bracelet Forever 21/ Belt vintage/ Sunglasses Dad's closet/ Headpiece Forever 21

I bought this dress at Goodwill, with the intention of re-working it into something more appropriate fror modern times. Although it took me about three years to get around to it, I'm quite pleased with the results. It used to have a collared neckline and was about a foot longer than it is now. I also switched out the buttons for some shiny, new daisy-shaped fasteners. I love the robin's-egg-blue color and the [almost bowling shirt-like] stripes.

Versace Menswear

I have rifled through a few of the Spring 2011 menswear collections, and Versace is by far my favorite. I would love to wear almost all of these pieces. The brocade, cropped pants and leather jackets are my favorite.

Safety Pins n' Stripes

When the Zac Posen for Target was released, I was super duper psyched. I marked my calendar months in advance, and arrived at Target only shortly after the doors had opened. As I perused the collection, everything looked shiny and pretty and wonderful. However, I was quite disappointed once I brought everything into the dressing room. Nothing seemed quite right-- in terms of its construction, and also in it's fit and proportion. It reminded me of that part ofConfessions of a Shopaholic when Isla Fischer's character wrote that piece on the cashmere coat she bought at a sample sale that "promises to be your best friend when you first meet" but turns out to be 95% acrylic. The deception of the shiny and pretty and wonderful had failed me.

That was... until today when I was skimming the sale rack of Target and I found this blouse. Its an XL, but I love it's billow-y silhouette. I thought it was the most beautiful pattern in the collection, but I only remember it in a maxi-dress and an oddly-shaped scarf. And once again, both of these garments deserted me. This shirt has returned order to the world once again. It goes with everything, and it makes me smile...

My 200th Post!

So today is my 200th post! How can that be?!? I am thoroughly loving my blogging experience! Every bit of it has been magnificent and rewarding, and I can't wait to see where else it will take me!

I posted these same shorts recently here. I can't stop wearing them! They are such a great alternative to jeans when it's this hot. They go with just about everything, and can be dressed up or down easily.
Shorts, altered men's jeans from Goodwill. Top, Belt, Target. Blazer, vintage. Earrings, Kate Spade. Shoes, Dolce Vita. Brooch, Ring, Flowers, Forever 21.

In other news... I met Karen Elson this evening! She was taking part in a presentation with fashion writer and stylist, Libby Callaway at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. They discussed the exhibit and Karen Elson's career as a model. Several wonderful fashion events have been scheduled in light of the recent opening of The Golden Age of Couture. All of them have been incredibly interesting and inspiring!

Today I celebrated my birthday with two of my best friends. We played around with one of my new gifts, a Polaroid Instant Film Camera! My aunt gave it to me, and I'm so excited about it! It takes such vibrant color photos!

I don't know why this picture is so dark in the scan. It looks better in person, but the sky still looks pretty!
