Pencil Shavings and Lou Doillon...

Today was yet another snowy day. And once again I have no new outfits to post, seeing as how I have been snowed into my house for the past 3 days. But I will tomorrow... for my 50th blog post! So ladies and gentleman, I am promising the most fabulous post in the history of Girl with the Flower. Here are some pictures I have to share with my lovely readers. Lately I have been doing some drawing in colored pencil, and therefore I have lots of pencil shavings... and nothing to do with them! What's a girl to do??? Take pictures of them! They're such a common thing, and seem so simple. But no one actually takes pictures of them!

Here is a video that I came across on It features Vanessa Bruno's Spring 2010 collection and style icon, Lou Doillon. I think its very well-done, and I love the music. It's the perfect collaboration between cinematography, art, fashion, and music.

Yet another snow day...

Due to weather related incidents, Girl with the Flower will be closed on January 31, 2009. I do not have any new outfits to post today, seeing as how I spent my day sledding, drinking hot chocolate, and watching old t.v. shows on DVD.

Let it Snow...

Today was a snow day, so I do not have any new outfits to post. It has snowed at least 2 inches throughout the day. I have lived in the same house my entire life, and never have I seen nearly this much snow in my front yard.
Today I did some browsing through, and I have a new favorite Spring 2010 collection- Alexis Mabille! The entire collection featured a division between the left and right side of the outfit. Very creative. It seems so simple- yet I have never seen anything like it before. I love how it is very experimental and avant-garde, but still has wearable pieces. For example, the pink/black blazer- which would look amazing with something so simple as jeans and white tee! Here are some of my favorite looks. Even the shoes are different colors to match the opposing sides!

Dots and Stripes

This is what I wore to school today, and also to an art class this evening. I am wearing a red dotted skirt from Goodwill that I altered. Also, I am wearing a faux leather motorcycle jacket in a couple of the pictures. I like it both ways, so I posted both pictures.

New Flower- New Outfit

This is what I wore to school today. I have on one of my new flowers that my friend gave me. I loved wearing it today! This outfit is entirely put together around this flower. It is such an unusual color that surprisingly coordinates with a large number of things in my wardrobe. I really love the mustard yellow in the flower with the navy blue stripes in my shirt.

Tie Dye and Spiky Necklaces

First of all, I wanted to point out that I now officially have 10 followers! Everyone's support means so much to me- I could do this without you guys! This is what I wore to school today. I have on a tee shirt that I tie-dyed. I love how it's a modern adaptation of age-old tie dye trend. It has a very abstract, artsy kind feel to it, which I really like. I borrowed this necklace from my mom, because I think it's spikiness really plays up that look.
Jeans, American Eagle. Shirt, Hanes (men's department) and tie dyed. Blazer, New York and Company. Shoes, Payless. Necklace, For Love 21. Flower, For Love 21.

I also wanted to share that I received two new flowers today from one of my dearest friends. She bought them for me while she was in New York City this weekend. I think that it's so cool that she thought to pick these up for me- helping me add to my ever-growing collection of flowers. The yellow one is from Anthropologie, and the pink one is from H&M. They are completely unlike any of the flowers I already have, and I can't wait to see how I can incorporate them into my wardrobe. It certainly is wonderful to receive an unexpected gift from a friend- almost as wonderful as giving them!

The Miraculous Tale of a Girl and Her Skirt

This is what I wore to school today. This skirt has had quite a long life... I bought it at Wet Seal two years ago at one of those "Buy-one-get-one for a penny" sales. When I bought it, it had two shiny black buttons on the pockets and was about 4 inches shorter. I decided that it was my new favorite skirt, because I loved its retro feel I didn't have anything like it. Well I wore it for several months- about once a week on average. But as I constantly washed, dried, and wore my lovely skirt, it began to shrink. It shrunk and shrunk until it no longer fit within the qualifications of my school's dress code. Disappointed and discouraged, I stored my skirt in the closet for several weeks to come. Until one day, my mother had a wonderful idea. She told me that I should sew a black band onto the bottom so that I may once again wear my skirt to school. At last, my glorious skirt could live again.

D.I.Y. Boyfriend Jeans

This is what I wore to dinner this evening. These are my "boyfriend jeans". When the whole boyfriend jeans trend came out, I didn't really know where I could find them in my town. So I had the brilliant idea to literally buy mens' jeans. I went to my favorite thrift store and tried on several pairs of jeans, and I found these Lucky Brand jeans- quite lucky indeed (no pun intended). I also slightly distressed them using sandpaper and a cheese grater. I thought that they would look better if they were a little bit "old" looking. I also put elastic bands at the hem to make them fitted at the bottom and kind of "scrunchy" looking. I haven't worn them in a long time, and I had forgotten how much I love them!

Masquerade Madness

This is what I wore this evening out to dinner with a group of friends and then to a masquerade formal. Here are some pictures of me and my friend getting ready to go. I found a box of fabulous masks in my attic. I love the butterfly one!! I think that it's really unique and interesting. I am wearing a Betsey Johnson dress and my friend's dress is from Anthropologie.

This is a picture of a really adorable outfit that a girl at my school had on today. I love all of it- especially the tie-dye leggings and the booties!
The booties are from Shi. They are quite possibly one of the cutest pairs of shoes I have seen... and they also come in red!

Custo Barcelona Top

This is what I wore to school today. I got dressed in about 10 minutes, and somehow it turned out quite nicely. I was going to wear a blazer, but I decided against it- I'm starting to like all the crazy patterns in this top. I am really enjoying the bell sleeves, and all the colors make me happy.

Khaki Sailor Shorts

This is what I wore to school today. I have posted this blouse already, but I have found a way to wear it differently- with my khaki sailor shorts! I really like wearing these shorts in the winter with tights. I also think that the zigzag design in the bag looks really cool with the floral of the blouse. This is my favorite outfit that I have worn in a long time. I think that it's the vintage qualities that I love so much.

A Chic Take on the Ultimate Fashion Don't

This is what I wore to school today and also to a play rehearsal this afternoon. I am wearing a skirt that I bought at a thrift store, and then shortened. The print is a black and red stripe, and the fabric is satin. I am also wearing an "Amoeba Music Store" tee that I bought at one of their locations in San Fransisco. I think it has a really cool design. Since it finally got warmer today, I got to opt out of wearing tights (yay!). So I finally tried out socks and high-heeled sandals. I have been wanting to try it ever since I bought these shoes. I got the idea from the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2010 collection. I think that it's a really interesting way to wear my favorite sandals in the winter, and I loved wearing it today! Lastly, this blazer has a slight blue and red plaid print to it. I think it looks so cool with the stripes in the skirt. I'm just getting a head start on the spring/summer mismatched pattern trend.

This is another variation of this outfit that I like. My mom just bought this jacket for me today. It has a slight zigzag pattern to it. I love it! It's also faux fur, which I love even more!
Fur is for petting, not for wearing.

Avatar and Zac Posen, all in one day!

This is what I wore go to see Avatar in 3-D and then out to eat Mexican food this evening. This top is one of my most recent Goodwill finds. I really like the fabric, and I love the vintage details, such as the ties at the neck and the covered buttons. I also used today as an opportunity to wear a necklace that I haven't worn in a long time. I bought it at an outdoor arts and crafts fair a couple of years ago. It's handmade- a bird drawing set in resin with a glorious aqua pendant attached below. I thought that it fit in with the styles and colors in this outfit. It's hard to see in these pictures, so I put a close-up below. I also included a close up of the fabric on the top.
Top- Goodwill
Jeans- American Eagle Outfitters
Blazer- New York and Company
Shoes- Aldo @ Marti and Liz Shoes
Socks- Target
Necklace- Arts and Crafts Fair
Bracelet- For Love 21
Bag- Vintage
Flower- For Love 21
I'm not sure if this is late-breaking news, or if this is old stuff that I just haven't heard about but- Zac Posen is doing a Go designer line for Target! I just read about it on fellow blogger's site, I am so excited, just as every other fashionista in America probably is. It comes out April 25th- mark your calendars everyone! Here's a picture of a tank top that will most likely find its way into my wardrobe and a few other things that I like.
